PowerStream is pleased to announce the appointment of Jim Jones, Regional Councillor for the Town of Markham, to the company’s Board of Directors.

Jones’ appointment to PowerStream’s 13-member Board fills the vacancy left by the late Tony Wong who passed away in June 2009 after battling a lengthy illness.

A Certified General Accountant (CGA) by profession, Jones also brings to PowerStream’s Board of Directors his extensive political background as well as leadership experience in several other business and community areas.

In addition to the years he has served as a councillor for the Town of Markham, Jones has been a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons and an opposition critic for the federal Progressive Conservative party on various portfolios including Finance, Revenue, Industry, Research & Innovation and Small Business.

A resident of Markham for over 36 years, Jones has been an active community leader. He has chaired several Town of Markham committees including those overseeing Parks and Recreation, the Markham Centre, Finance, Budget and is currently chairing the Langstaff Gateway Study and Markham Live. He chaired Markham’s 1996 Olympic Bid Committee and was a member of Toronto’s 1996 Bid Committee. At a regional level he has chaired the York Region Transit Committee and the Region of York’s Commonwealth Games Bid.

Jones has served on several Boards in the Town of Markham including Markham Public Library, Fred Varley Art Gallery, Markham Theatre, Heritage Markham and Small Business Enterprise.
